What Is Uber Express Pool?

For Drivers

Uber introduced Uber Express Pool, a new pickup and drop off service in a limited number of cities in February 2018 and it has grown since then to multiple cities all over the US. It was designed to make Pool routes more direct and the experience less stressful for drivers.

Express Pool asks riders to come to you rather than picking up every rider at their door, Express Pool riders walk to meet you at a spot along your route and drop-offs are almost the same. Drop-offs have riders dropped off at a spot near their destination and walk from there.

When you receive a rider Express Pool trip you will notice they have chosen to walk to their pickup and from their drop off points.

How To Take Uber Pool Trips

Will You Make More Money With Express Pool Or Uber X Trips?

That depends upon the number of passengers and if surge fares are in effect. You will earn a flat fare for every added pickup plus your usual Pool rates.

Can You Decline An Uber Pool Or Express Pool Trip?

As an Uber X driver, you can choose not to accept a Pool ride when it comes. UberPool is not optional for you like it is for riders. You will get pinged for UberPool rides and UberX rides regardless of your preference.

You can certainly decline an Uber Express Pool trip, but you need to decide if you can afford to be put on “time-out” which will last for several minutes depending on how many requests you have declined or failed to answer. Some drivers have reported up to 15 minutes per time out once they reach too many declined trips.

For Riders, Express Pool is a new shared ride option that lets you join other riders with similar routes on the same trip while you share the cost of the trip. In many cities where Uber Pool is offered Express Pool is also available.

How Uber Pool And Shared Rides Work

How To Use Express Pool

1. Request Then Wait For A Pickup Spot
You will request an Uber Express Pool ride and then wait a few minutes while uber matches you to any other express pool users along your route. Uber will map the best trip, and tell you where to meet your driver.

2. Walk To Your Pickup Spot
Usually, you will walk to a corner to help avoid detours and speedup pickup time. Please walk to your pickup spot before the driver arrives so no one is kept waiting. Remember a driver only has to wait two minutes before leaving without you.

3. Walk To Your Destination
Your trip will end at an easy drop off spot picked by Uber, and you may walk a short distance to your destination.

Why Use Express Pool?

Express Pool takes a short amount of time and improves your route. When you request a ride, people nearby may be trying to go to the same area and Uber finds those riders closest to avoid detours later.

Faster pickups and drop-offs can result from Uber selecting pickup and drop off spots based on where the driver is coming from and where other passengers are going, so everyone may enjoy a more direct trip.

Better Matches Equal Lower Prices

More direct routes help Uber keep prices lower than the cost of UberPool. Express is available on all Uber X vehicles and trips but depending on the driver available sometimes you will order an Express Trip and get a trip alone or with other Express Pool users in any Uber vehicle class.

Is Uber Pool The Cheapest Uber Type?

No, but it is much cheaper than a normal Uber X. Uber Pool is usually significantly less expensive than Uber X. The cheapest Uber ride is Express Pool. Uber Express Pool is the most affordable shared Uber ride available.

The main difference of Express pool to Uber Pool is that the driver picks and drops off riders at fixed locations. Uber app will tell you the pickup spot in advance when you book a ride.
